We aimed to investigate the age and sex dependent association of uric acid (UA) and incident hypertension. We analyzed data from the Health Examinees Study, a community-based prospective cohort study conducted in Korea from 2004 to 2013. It included 29,088 non-hypertensive subjects aged 40-79 (age, 52.5±7.8 years; men, 31.4%) who had serum UA measurement and participated in the follow-up survey. The risk factors of hypertension were assessed using Cox regression. Over a mean 3.8 years of follow-up, 1388 men (15.2%) and 1942 women (9.7%) were newly diagnosed with hypertension. Upon age- and sex-based stratification, the risk of hypertension was highest in hyperuricemic subjects aged 40-49 years (HR women, 2.16; men, 1.30). Across the entire cohort, the risk of incident hypertension was higher in groups with higher serum UA levels, and highest in women aged 40-49 years (HR, 1.44; P<0.001). On multivariable linear regression analysis, the higher the baseline serum UA level, the greater the increase in blood pressure during follow-up, and this effect was strongest in women aged 40-49 years (β=0.87 and P<0.01 for systolic blood pressure). We included 429 adult KTRs who had a functioning graft ⩾1 year. A MetS-DP was constructed using habitual dietary intake derived from a 177-item food frequency questionnaire. We used reduced rank regression (RRR), and defined the six components of MetS (waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, serum triglycerides, HbA1c, and HDL cholesterol) as response variables and 48 food groups as predictor variables. We evaluated the association between the MetS-DP and all-cause mortality using multivariable Cox regression analysis. The MetS-DP was characterized by high intakes of processed meat and desserts, and low intakes of vegetables, tea, rice, fruits, milk, and meat substitutes. During a mean follow-up of 5.3±1.2 years, 63 KTRs (14.7%) died. The relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) is well known; however, the extent to which the satiety hormone leptin acts as a confounder or mediator in this relationship is uncertain. We examined whether the association between IR and hepatic steatosis is mediated by leptin in Colombian adolescents with excess adiposity. A total of 122 adolescents (mean age 13.4 years; 68% girls) participated in the study. Among the 1173 patients, 77.5% had iron deficiency. We included 24 obese patients with IGT. Patients were randomized to receive saxagliptin 5mg or placebo in the morning. A questionnaire about hypertension was collected by 2731 customers from 94 community pharmacies in North West Italy, during a hypertension screening program. We investigated the association between SUA and incident hypertension according to the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and American Society of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines. In this retrospective cohort study, we enrolled 10,537 healthy individuals ≥30 years old who underwent a routine annual health examination with office blood pressure recorded at our hospital in 2016; of the participants, 7349 repeated the exam in 2017. According to the ESC and ACC guidelines, hypertension was defined as office BP≥140/90mmHg or ≥130/80mmHg. link3 Hyperuricemia (HUA) was defined as SUA ≥7mg/dL in men and ≥6mg/dL in women. The hypertension incidence was 5.8% among 6378 individuals in the ESC cohort and 19% among 4330 individuals in the ACC cohort.
