The data of 32 patients who underwent transabdominal LAP-UU with the intraoperative RU-assisted technique due to multiple ureteral polyps between January 2011 and March 2021 were reviewed at our institute. After administration of anesthesia, patients were placed in a passive position and underwent a three-port transabdominal laparoscopy with RU. Detailed data were reviewed, such as demographic characteristics, intraoperative outcomes, postoperative data, complications, and pathology reports. Thirty-two patients were diagnosed with multiple ureteral polyps underwent this surgery method at our institution. The mean duration of symptoms at the time of diagnosis was approximately 7.1 months. The mean age of patients was 42.4 years, with men accounting for 68.8% (22/32), lesion of left for 56.3% (18/32), and the upper ureter for 62.5% (20/32). Furthermore, the median length of the polyps was 3.6 cm, the mean operative time was 174.6 min, and the estimated blood loss (EBL) was about 86.8 ml. The mean time to begin a liquid diet and to be out of bed were 1.7 and 2.3 days, respectively. The average length of hospital stay was 6.3 days. The ureteral stent was removed by cystoscope 2-3 months after surgery. Follow-up duration ranged from 3 to 112 months and none of the patients required another surgery for recurrence. Transabdominal LAP-UU combined with the intraoperative RU-assisted technique is an effective, safe, and reliable surgical option for patients with multiple ureteral polyps. This study adopted rigid neuroendoscopy assisted hematoma resection to evacuate CSDH and investigated its efficacy as compared with the traditional burr-hole craniostomy (BHC) in CSDH with mixed density. A total of 41 patients underwent rigid neuroendoscopy assisted hematoma resection (neuroendoscopy group) and 83 patients were treated by the traditional BHC (control group). We describe an improved "functional" approach to CT imaging of the abdominal wall that can facilitate this understanding and assist surgical planning. This invited article reports the observational experience gained from the functional abdominal wall CT examinations of 88 patients who underwent complex ventral hernia repair using pre-operative Botulinum toxin A (BTA) infiltration of the lateral oblique abdominal muscles as well as a further eight patients with diastasis rectus abdominis who were examined to exclude ventral hernia. The use of a functional CT protocol which supplements resting images with additional "crunching" images (acquired with the abdominal wall muscles all strongly contracted) can significantly improve the demonstration of ventral hernia defects. Crunching acquisitions can also help differentiate true hernias from dysfunctional bulges, identify muscle denervation or atrophic changes, reveal otherwise occult hernias that may be missed on resting or Valsalva images alone, and assist the pre-operative assessment of BTA effect. Intertrochanteric fractures increased quickly in past decades owing to the increasing number of aging population. Recently, geriatric co-management was rapidly emerging as a favored clinical care model for older patients with hip fractures. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) co-management program in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures. In this retrospective study, patients were divided into MDT group and traditional orthopedic care (TOC) group according to the healthcare model applied. 249 patients were included in the TOC group from January 2014 to December 2016 and 241 patients were included in the MDT group from January 2017 to December 2019. Baseline data, peri-operative data, and postoperative complications were collected and analyzed using SPSS 21.0. No significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of patient baseline characteristics. Patients in the MDT group had significantly lower time from admission to suantly shorten the time from admission to surgery, LOS, and reduce the postoperative complications for elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures. Further research was needed to evaluate the impact of this model on patient health outcomes.The aim was to investigate the effects of buckwheat sprout treated with plasma-activated water (PAW) and their quality, nutrients (protein, amino acids, fat, and carbohydrates), functional active ingredients (total flavonoids, total phenolic acids, γ-gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), and polysaccharides), and antioxidant activity during germination. PAW had no negative effects on the germination rate, but promoted the stem growth instead, which indicated 1.12-fold higher germination rate compared with the control group. The results of sensory evaluation demonstrated that the obtained sprouts were bright green, shinning, crisp and smooth, with sufficient moisture, and easy to chew. During germination (1-9 days), the water content, amino acids, and reducing sugars of sprouts showed an increasing trend and were basically higher in the PAW group than in the control group, while protein, carbohydrate, and crude fat presented a decreasing trend. The results were that the flavonoid, phenolic acid, γ-GABA, polysaccharides content, and antioxidant activity during germination showed a gradual upward trend but with slight differences, and the antioxidant properties of buckwheat sprouts might be related to the phenolic acid and polysaccharides content. These data show that the PAW treatment on buckwheat sprout have great potential as a dietary source of antioxidant function with health benefits. The diet-induced gut microbiota dysbiosis has been suggested as a major risk factor for atherothrombosis, however, the detailed mechanism linking these conditions is yet to be fully understood. We established a long-term excessive-energy diet-induced metabolic syndrome (MetS) inbred Wuzhishan minipig model, which is characterized by its genetic stability, small size, and human-like physiology. The metabolic parameters, atherosclerotic lesions, gut microbiome, and host transcriptome were analyzed. Metabolomics profiling revealed a linkage between gut microbiota and atherothrombosis. We showed that white atheromatous plaque was clearly visible on abdominal aorta in the MetS model. Furthermore, using metagenome and metatranscriptome sequencing, we discovered that the long-term excessive energy intake altered the local intestinal microbiota composition and transcriptional profile, which was most dramatically illustrated by the reduced abundance of SCFAs-producing bacteria including Bacteroides, Lachnospiraceae, and Ruminococcaceae in the MetS model. Liver and abdominal aorta transcriptomes in the MetS model indicate that the diet-induced gut microbiota dysbiosis activated host chronic inflammatory responses and significantly upregulated the expression of genes related to arachidonic acid-dependent signaling pathways. Notably, metabolomics profiling further revealed an intimate linkage between arachidonic acid metabolism and atherothrombosis in the host-gut microbial metabolism axis.
